The Package:

Electrical Design Engineer Skills:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3+ years’ experience in protection and control design for HV/MV projects.
- Strong knowledge of HV/EHV substations (11kV to 400kV).
- Good proficiency with software like ETAP, DIgSILENT, or PSCAD.
- Awareness of SCADA/automation systems and comms protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus) is a plus.
- Strong technical documentation and drawing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work well in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites and offices in Scotland.
As an Electrical Design Engineer:
- Taking ownership of detailed protection and control designs, from concept right through to IFC.
- Producing and reviewing design documentation including:
- Protection philosophies and schemes
- Settings and coordination studies
- SLDs, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Interlocking and tripping logic
- Selecting and specifying relays/IEDs to meet project needs.
- Carrying out fault studies and protection grading using tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, or PSCAD.
- Making sure designs are fully compliant with relevant standards.
- Liaising with project teams, construction/commissioning engineers, and external stakeholders.
- Supporting design risk assessments, technical queries, and change controls.
- Assisting with FAT documentation and commissioning strategies.
- Helping to improve design processes and share best practice across projects.
