The Company
This well-established Irish main contractor has built a strong reputation for delivering technically demanding construction projects across the pharmaceutical, industrial, commercial, and healthcare sectors. With a growing portfolio of high-value projects throughout Ireland, they are recognised for maintaining exceptional standards of quality, safety and programme delivery.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join the team on a large-scale pharmaceutical construction project in Co Westmeath. You'll become part of a collaborative site management team working on one of the region's most significant construction developments.
The Role: Health & Safety Officer
As the Health & Safety Officer, you will take responsibility for supporting and promoting the highest health and safety standards across this major pharmaceutical construction project in Co Westmeath.
Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Management Team and subcontractors, you will help ensure all site activities comply with current legislation, company procedures, and client requirements. This is a hands-on role requiring regular site inspections, proactive engagement with site personnel, and the ability to influence a positive safety culture across a busy live construction environment.
Candidates must have previous experience working on pharmaceutical construction projects and a strong background with a main contractor delivering complex construction works.

About You
You are an experienced Health & Safety Officer with a proven background delivering safety on pharmaceutical construction projects. You understand the standards expected on regulated construction sites and have the confidence to engage with site management, subcontractors, and client representatives.
You are organised, approachable and proactive, with the ability to identify potential risks before they become issues. Your construction experience allows you to work effectively within a busy main contractor environment while helping deliver the project safely, on programme and to the highest standards.

Must Have Requirements
- Must have 3 to 5+ years' experience in a Health & Safety Officer role on construction projects
- Proven experience required on pharmaceutical construction projects
- Experience working with a main contractor on Irish construction projects is required
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification (Degree, Diploma or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and construction regulations
Preferred Experience
- Experience on cleanroom, pharmaceutical or industrial construction projects
- Internal auditing experience
- Confident using Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Nice to Have
- IOSH Membership
- Additional health and safety certifications
- Experience delivering behavioural safety initiatives
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety observations across the pharmaceutical construction project
- Ensure compliance with company health and safety management systems and all relevant legislation
- Conduct site inductions and support ongoing safety training for employees and subcontractors
- Prepare detailed safety reports, inspections, risk assessments and accident investigations
- Work closely with the Project Manager and site management team to maintain a proactive safety culture
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly
- Assist with the development and review of RAMS and safe systems of work
- Support client safety inspections and regulatory audits
- Promote continuous improvement in health, safety and wellbeing across the project
