The Monaghan team has particular expertise in sustainable engineering, energy-efficient design, building physics and BIM. Engineers are given strong technical development alongside practical project exposure and support from experienced senior staff.
The Role: Intermediate Engineer
As Intermediate Engineer, you will be based in Monaghan, Co Monaghan, working on building services projects from initial concept and planning through detailed design, coordination and commissioning.
You will take responsibility for your own design packages while working closely with Senior Engineers and project leads. As your experience develops, you will take greater ownership of project coordination, client communication and supporting more junior members of the engineering team.
The position offers strong exposure to technical design, BIM, sustainable engineering and building physics, with support towards Chartership and progression to Senior Engineer level.
Must Have Requirements
You will have at least three years’ building services design experience and be ready to take greater ownership of your projects.
You should be technically capable, organised and comfortable working within a wider engineering team. Good communication skills are important, along with an interest in developing your experience across sustainable engineering, BIM and energy-efficient building design.
This role particularly suits an Intermediate Engineer looking for a clear path towards Senior Engineer level and support towards achieving Chartership.

Must Have Requirements
- Must have 3+ years’ relevant building services engineering design experience within a consultancy or related environment
- Degree or relevant qualification in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required
- Hands-on engineering design experience across building projects required
- AutoCAD and relevant engineering design calculation software experience required
- Must have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary design team
- BIM and 3D modelling experience beneficial
- Revit experience beneficial
- Experience working across multiple building sectors preferred
- Knowledge of energy-efficient and low-carbon building design beneficial
- IES Virtual Environment or thermal modelling experience advantageous
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering body
- Working towards Chartership
- Low Carbon Energy Assessor certification
- Experience dealing directly with clients and other design consultants
- Produce building services engineering designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation
- Develop coordinated designs from concept stage through detailed design and commissioning
- Work with Senior Engineers, architects and other consultants to resolve technical and coordination issues
- Support BIM and 3D model coordination across multidisciplinary projects
- Attend project and design meetings and communicate with clients and project stakeholders
- Take increasing responsibility for project delivery and support Junior Engineers where required
