The Role: Junior Health and Safety Officer
This is a Junior Health and Safety Officer position covering water and ESB projects across Galway and Mayo.
Reporting directly to a Senior Health and Safety Officer, you will support the implementation of health and safety procedures across multiple civil engineering sites, helping to ensure works are carried out safely and in compliance with Irish health and safety legislation.
You will gain practical experience across utility infrastructure projects, including excavation works, underground services, water pipelines and electrical infrastructure.
The role would suit a Junior Health and Safety Officer looking to build their experience in the Irish civil engineering sector with guidance and support from an experienced senior safety professional.

About You
You will have a genuine interest in developing a career in construction health and safety, ideally with some exposure to civil engineering or utility infrastructure projects.
You should be comfortable working on active construction sites, communicating with site teams and learning from a Senior Health and Safety Officer.
A practical approach, good attention to detail and the confidence to raise safety concerns are important. You will also need to be organised and comfortable travelling between projects throughout Galway and Mayo.

- A relevant Health and Safety qualification is required.
- Must have a good understanding of Irish construction health and safety legislation.
- Must have a full driving licence and be willing to travel between sites across Galway and Mayo.

Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in a Junior Health and Safety Officer, Graduate Safety Officer or similar construction safety role.
- Exposure to civil engineering, utilities, water infrastructure or ESB projects.
- Familiarity with risk assessments, method statements and site safety inspections.
- Knowledge of underground services, excavation safety and temporary works.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Health and Safety Officer in maintaining health and safety standards across multiple sites.
- Carry out regular site safety inspections and assist with audits.
- Assist in reviewing risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with company procedures and Irish safety legislation.
- Support site management teams in identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions.
- Assist with toolbox talks, safety briefings and site inductions.
- Maintain accurate health and safety records, inspection reports and documentation.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with site safety requirements.
- Assist with incident reporting, investigations and follow-up actions.
- Promote safe working practices across water infrastructure, excavation and electrical utility projects.
- Work closely with site engineers, foremen and project managers to address safety concerns.
