The Role Mechanical Design Engineer
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join an experienced Dublin based design team responsible for developing compliant, efficient and buildable mechanical designs for a wide range of building services projects.
This is predominantly an office based mechanical design role with regular interaction with project teams, site teams and external consultants. You will play a key part in ensuring designs are technically robust, aligned with current regulations and delivered in line with programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed mechanical building services designs in line with fire strategy reports, building regulations and planning requirements
• Carry out heating and cooling load calculations, thermal modelling and ventilation design using industry recognised software
• Size and select mechanical plant including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers, ASHPs, pumps and heat exchangers
• Produce pipework and ductwork sizing calculations and coordinated layouts for construction
• Design above ground drainage systems and domestic hot and cold water services
• Attend design team and coordination meetings with architects, consultants and project managers
• Carry out site surveys of existing mechanical installations where required
• Prepare technical reports, stage submissions and design risk assessments
• Support project delivery by ensuring designs are issued in line with programme milestones
About You
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• Strong background in mechanical design within the building services or construction sector
• Proven experience delivering HVAC design for commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical or data centre projects
• Working knowledge of CIBSE, BS, IS EN or ASHRAE standards
• Proficient in design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, IES, TAS or similar
• Confident producing load calculations, plant sizing and technical reports
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced project environment
• Detail focused with a clear understanding of quality, compliance and deadlines
