The Role: Mechanical & Electrical Estimator

This is a senior estimating position covering both civil engineering and mechanical and electrical packages on water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout the Southwest of Ireland.

You will take responsibility for preparing accurate, competitive tenders for new-build wastewater pumping stations and upgrades to existing facilities, including projects involving live operational infrastructure.

Working closely with the commercial, engineering and project delivery teams, you will independently manage the estimating process from initial tender review through to final submission.

A strong understanding of both civils and M&E costs is essential, particularly when pricing wastewater pumping station upgrades, associated mechanical equipment, electrical installations and civil engineering works.

Must Have Requirements
  • Proven experience in both civil engineering and mechanical and electrical estimating is essential.
  • Must have demonstrable experience pricing upgrades to existing wastewater pumping stations as well as new-build pumping station projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering, mechanical and electrical project costs, including labour, materials, plant and subcontractor packages.
  • Must be capable of independently preparing accurate, competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to submission.
  • Previous estimating experience within the Irish water and wastewater infrastructure sector is required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering and M&E works.
  • Price upgrades and refurbishment works to existing wastewater pumping stations.
  • Prepare estimates for new-build pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Review drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and tender documentation.
  • Complete accurate material take-offs and labour, plant and equipment cost assessments.
  • Obtain and assess quotations from specialist subcontractors, suppliers and equipment manufacturers.
  • Price mechanical equipment, pipework, valves, pumps, electrical installations and associated civil works.
  • Identify tender risks, opportunities, exclusions and commercial considerations.
  • Liaise with engineering, commercial and operations teams to develop practical and competitive tender proposals.
  • Manage multiple tenders while maintaining accuracy and meeting submission deadlines.
  • Support tender clarifications, negotiations and handover to project delivery teams following successful awards.
About You

You are an experienced M&E Estimator with a strong background in water and wastewater infrastructure.

You understand the practical challenges involved in pricing works on existing operational pumping stations, including access restrictions, temporary works, mechanical installations and electrical upgrades.

You will be comfortable reviewing technical documentation, building up detailed estimates and challenging supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure tenders are both competitive and commercially sound.

Experience working with civil engineering contractors, MEICA contractors or specialist water infrastructure contractors would be particularly relevant.

Strong Excel skills and experience using estimating software would be beneficial.
