The Role: Mechanical Lead
We are recruiting an experienced Mechanical Lead with specialist knowledge of Bulk and Specialty Gas Systems for a major high-tech project in Co Kildare.
This is a senior technical position responsible for managing specialist mechanical vendor packages from design development and procurement through installation, commissioning and final handover.
You will oversee complex process utility infrastructure including bulk nitrogen systems, oxygen generation plants, hydrogen distribution, cryogenic storage and specialty gas systems.
Working closely with the Project Manager, engineering teams, specialist vendors and client representatives, you will ensure mechanical systems are technically compliant, properly coordinated and delivered safely to programme.
The role requires someone with strong mechanical engineering knowledge who understands both the technical and practical challenges of delivering specialist gas infrastructure within semiconductor or similarly regulated industrial environments.
Must Have Requirements
You are an experienced Mechanical Lead, Senior Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Package Manager with a strong technical background in complex industrial mechanical systems.
You understand the importance of vendor management, design coordination and technical compliance on large-scale engineering projects. You are comfortable reviewing detailed process engineering documentation and challenging specialist suppliers where necessary.
You will have experience working with multidisciplinary project teams and understand how mechanical equipment packages interact with electrical, instrumentation, controls and wider facility infrastructure.
Strong communication, technical problem-solving and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple specialist vendors and maintain progress against demanding construction and commissioning programmes.

Must Have Requirements
- Must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Proven experience required leading mechanical engineering delivery or specialist mechanical packages on major Tier 1 construction, semiconductor, pharmaceutical or industrial projects.
- Hands-on experience required managing specialist mechanical equipment vendors, technical submissions, design coordination and project delivery.
- Strong technical understanding of process utility systems, industrial gas infrastructure or complex mechanical plant installations.
- Valid Safe Pass and relevant construction health and safety training required.
- Experience with bulk nitrogen, VPSA oxygen generation, air separation units (ASU), hydrogen systems or specialty gas distribution.
- Previous involvement in semiconductor fabrication facilities, life sciences or advanced manufacturing projects.
- Experience reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, control philosophies and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of FAT, SAT, commissioning, process safety reviews and system handover.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and specialist equipment suppliers.
- Lead the technical management and delivery of bulk and specialty gas vendor packages from initial design through commissioning and handover.
- Coordinate specialist vendors responsible for nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, cryogenic and process gas infrastructure.
- Review vendor documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, equipment specifications, control philosophies and O&M manuals.
- Manage technical design reviews at 30%, 60%, 90% and Issued for Construction (IFC) stages.
- Monitor vendor design, procurement, manufacturing and commissioning progress against project programmes.
- Review process calculations, equipment selections, redundancy arrangements, pressure control systems and utility requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, fire protection and building management systems.
- Manage equipment battery limits, technical interfaces and integration with existing site infrastructure.
- Support technical tender evaluations, procurement reviews and specialist equipment selection.
- Attend vendor meetings, factory inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Provide technical engineering support during mechanical installation, construction sequencing and system integration.
- Review construction work packages, shop drawings, technical queries and RFIs.
- Participate in site inspections, quality walks, punch listing and installation verification.
- Coordinate commissioning activities including Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), system start-up, performance testing and reliability demonstrations.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, design risk assessments and process safety reviews.
- Ensure specialist mechanical systems comply with project specifications, relevant standards, statutory requirements and client engineering standards.
- Work closely with project management and commercial teams to identify technical risks, manage vendor performance and protect programme delivery.
