The Role: Mechanical Project Engineer

Based in Co Kildare with travel to project sites as required, the Mechanical Project Engineer will support the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects across a diverse portfolio of MEICA and civil engineering works.

Working closely with Project Managers, design teams, site teams and specialist subcontractors, you will coordinate mechanical engineering activities from design through procurement, installation, commissioning and project handover. The Mechanical Project Engineer will ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Must Have Requirements
  • Must have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Project Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer.
  • Proven experience required with mechanical systems including pumps, pipework, access steelwork, mechanical plant and process equipment.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects from design through commissioning is required.
  • Candidates must have an existing legal right to work in Ireland.
Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience within the Irish water or wastewater sector.
  • Strong understanding of NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience coordinating MEICA projects.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, AutoCAD or Trimble ProDesign.
Nice to Have

  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership.
  • Experience delivering projects within regulated utility environments.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, testing and operational handover procedures.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from inception through to completion.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, civil, process, ICA, BIM and HSQE personnel.
  • Provide technical expertise on pumps, pipework, access steelwork, process plant and mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with project planning, scope definition and engineering coordination.
  • Support procurement activities, equipment selection and technical evaluations.
  • Review engineering documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Monitor project programme, budgets and commercial performance while identifying project risks.
  • Support subcontractor management and NEC4 contract administration.
  • Carry out regular site visits to monitor progress, quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Promote a strong culture of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance across all project activities.
  • Support commissioning, testing and successful project handover.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across project delivery.
About You

You are a Mechanical Project Engineer with a solid background delivering mechanical engineering projects within the water, wastewater or process engineering sectors. You are technically strong, commercially aware and comfortable coordinating multidisciplinary teams across both office and site environments.

You communicate effectively with clients, consultants and subcontractors, enjoy solving engineering challenges and take pride in delivering projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Your organised approach allows you to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on programme, quality and commercial objectives.
