The Role Project Design Engineer
As Project Design Engineer you will play a key technical role in supporting the delivery of wind farms, solar PV projects and battery energy storage systems. This is a broad renewable energy engineering position spanning feasibility, planning, pre construction and construction support.
You will assess potential sites, develop engineering layouts, coordinate technical inputs and support grid connection processes. Working closely with development managers, external consultants, local authorities and contractors, you will help ensure that each renewable energy project progresses efficiently from concept to operational handover.
Your work will directly influence project viability, programme certainty, technical compliance and overall quality.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess site feasibility for renewable energy developments using CAD and GIS tools
• Prepare engineering drawings including site layouts, planning drawings and infrastructure routes
• Support wind, solar and battery storage projects through feasibility, development and construction phases
• Assist with preliminary energy yield calculations and technical assessments
• Support cumulative impact assessments and technical reporting using commercial and in house tools
• Liaise with local authorities, grid operators, consultants and contractors
• Assist with grid connection applications and preparation of as built drawings
• Participate in public information events and stakeholder engagement activities where required
• Carry out site surveys and site walkovers across Ireland and the UK
• Maintain accurate drawing control and project documentation
• Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with health, safety and quality standards
About You
• Degree qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline
• Experience working on renewable energy, infrastructure or engineering projects
• Exposure to wind energy, solar PV or battery energy storage projects is advantageous
• Competent in CAD software with GIS experience highly beneficial
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
• Ability to support projects across feasibility, development and construction stages
• Organised and capable of managing multiple tasks and project timelines
• Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with stakeholders and public groups
• Flexible regarding travel and working hours as projects require
• Full clean driving licence
