The Company
A well-established international contractor is delivering large-scale mission critical infrastructure projects across Europe, including hyperscale data centres and advanced industrial developments. With a strong reputation for delivering technically challenging projects safely and efficiently, they continue to expand their operations throughout the Nordic region.
Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Appointed Person (Crane) to join a major data centre project in Vaasa, Finland. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring all lifting operations are planned, coordinated and executed safely within a busy live construction environment.
The Role: Appointed Person (Crane)
Reporting to the Construction Management team, you will take ownership of all crane and lifting operations across the project. You will be responsible for producing and approving lift plans, coordinating lifting activities with subcontractors, and ensuring every operation complies with current legislation and recognised industry standards.
Working closely with site management, lifting supervisors, crane operators and subcontractors, you'll ensure lifting activities support programme delivery while maintaining the highest safety standards on site.
Must Have Requirements:
• Must hold CPCS Appointed Person (A61) or an equivalent internationally recognised lifting qualification.
• Proven experience required planning and managing lifting operations on large construction or industrial projects.
• Minimum 5 years' experience working as an Appointed Person or in a senior lifting operations role.
• Strong working knowledge of BS7121, lifting regulations and safe systems of work.
• Experience developing Lift Plans, RAMS and coordinating multiple lifting activities on busy construction sites.
Preferred Experience:
• Previous experience on data centre, pharmaceutical or other mission critical projects.
• Experience working on large international construction projects.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with multidisciplinary site teams.
• Additional Health & Safety qualifications would be beneficial.
Nice to Have:
• Previous experience working across Nordic or European projects.
• Familiarity with heavy lifting operations involving crawler cranes, tower cranes and mobile cranes.
• Ability to mentor junior Appointed Persons and lifting teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Take full responsibility for planning, organising and managing all lifting operations across the project.
• Produce, review and approve comprehensive Lift Plans for routine and complex lifting activities.
• Ensure every lifting operation is fully assessed, planned and authorised before commencement.
• Coordinate crane activities with project management, subcontractors and logistics teams.
• Brief Lift Supervisors and lifting crews on approved Lift Plans and safe working procedures.
• Monitor lifting operations to ensure compliance with approved plans and statutory requirements.
• Stop unsafe lifting activities where necessary and implement corrective actions.
• Support and mentor Appointed Persons and lifting personnel where required.
• Promote a strong safety culture across the project while maintaining programme delivery.
• Liaise with client representatives, site management and Health & Safety teams regarding lifting operations.
About You:
You are an experienced Appointed Person (Crane) with a strong background delivering safe lifting operations on major construction projects. You are confident producing detailed Lift Plans, coordinating multiple lifting activities and managing subcontractors in a fast-paced site environment.
You communicate well with site teams, have excellent planning skills and understand the importance of balancing safety, productivity and programme delivery on complex projects.
