The Role – Commissioning Manager
As Commissioning Manager, you will take full responsibility for all commissioning activities across power, renewable, and substation projects. You will lead commissioning from planning through to energisation, ensuring all systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with technical standards.
This is a senior role involving technical decision-making, team leadership, and close coordination with project teams, clients, and stakeholders across the full project lifecycle.

The Role – Commissioning Manager
As Commissioning Manager, you will take full responsibility for all commissioning activities across power, renewable, and substation projects. You will lead commissioning from planning through to energisation, ensuring all systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commissioning of primary, secondary, and ancillary plant across transmission, distribution, and generation systems
- Oversee testing and commissioning of power transformers, AIS and GIS switchgear, and substation equipment
- Manage commissioning and testing of protection and control systems using specialist equipment such as Omicron
- Coordinate with project teams during commissioning, switching, and energisation phases
- Maintain detailed test records and compile commissioning documentation including as-builts and O&M manuals
- Ensure all works comply with relevant standards, specifications, and client requirements
- Prepare and manage commissioning plans aligned with project programmes and technical procedures
- Attend and contribute to project and client meetings, ensuring all commissioning actions are addressed
- Assess site safety prior to commissioning activities and ensure safe systems of work are implemented
- Attend factory acceptance tests where required
- Support development of method statements and risk assessments for commissioning activities
- Assist with tender submissions and technical input where required
- Contribute to design reviews during project design phases
- Support project planning and scheduling activities
- Identify and manage specialist subcontract commissioning resources when required
- Lead and develop in-house commissioning teams
- Mentor and support engineers through training, shadowing, and on-the-job development
- Degree or HNC qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong experience commissioning substations up to 400kV
- Proven background working with primary and secondary equipment from major suppliers such as ABB, Siemens, or Toshiba
- Experience with SCADA systems and digital substation control systems including IEC61850
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the power or utilities sector
- Strong knowledge of commissioning test equipment and software such as Omicron
- Solid understanding of substation, utilities, and renewable energy projects
- Familiarity with ESB and EirGrid standards and specifications is advantageous
- Strong understanding of design, construction, and commissioning interfaces
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to manage project priorities
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and lead teams
- Strong communication, organisational, and planning skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a dynamic project environment
- Proactive approach with a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivery
