Construction Manager Mechanical Data Centre

The Role Construction Manager Mechanical
As Mechanical Construction Manager you will take full ownership of on site mechanical construction delivery on a major data centre project in Milan. You will lead mechanical installation from pre mobilisation through to commissioning and handover, ensuring safety, programme and quality targets are achieved.
This is a senior site leadership role. You will represent the mechanical function on site, coordinate subcontractors, drive short term planning and ensure that mechanical works integrate seamlessly with electrical and CSA packages. Your impact will be visible in programme certainty, installation standards and commissioning readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
• Lead site safety culture across all mechanical activities on the data centre project
• Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and regular safety briefings
• Review and enforce RAMS, permits to work and method statements
• Carry out site inspections and ensure full compliance with Italian and EU safety regulations
Programme and Planning
• Support development of the construction programme and detailed lookahead schedules
• Drive daily and weekly progress meetings with mechanical subcontractors
• Monitor installation against programme milestones and escalate risks early
• Coordinate sequencing of mechanical works with electrical and commissioning teams
Subcontractor and Team Management
• Manage mechanical subcontractors to ensure productivity, quality and accountability
• Chair coordination meetings with MEP teams and client representatives
• Ensure labour levels and supervision are aligned with programme requirements
• Resolve on site issues quickly to avoid impact on overall data centre delivery
Quality Control
• Enforce inspection and test plans across all mechanical systems
• Oversee installation of HVAC, pipework, plant rooms and associated services
• Maintain accurate drawing mark ups and track inspection progress
• Drive snag close out and ensure systems are handed over without surprises
Reporting and Documentation
• Maintain detailed site records and daily diaries
• Track variations and ensure scope changes are captured and communicated
• Report progress, risks and key metrics to the Project Manager
• Ensure as built documentation is accurate and aligned with installed works
Commissioning and Handover
• Support commissioning teams in proving mechanical systems and life safety installations
• Coordinate readiness for mechanical completion and integrated systems testing
• Manage demobilisation of mechanical subcontractors in a controlled manner
• Ensure statutory compliance and completion documentation is fully closed out
About You
• Strong background in mechanical construction management on large scale projects
• Proven experience delivering mechanical packages on data centre or mission critical builds
• Solid understanding of HVAC systems, pipework, plant installation and mechanical QA processes
• Experience leading subcontractors in a fast paced construction environment
• Excellent planning and coordination skills across MEP services
• Clear communicator who can lead from the front and maintain high standards
• Proactive approach to problem solving with strong focus on programme and quality
