€90,000 to €110,000 full benefits
The Company
This opportunity is with a leading European engineering and construction contractor delivering mission critical and data centre projects across Ireland, Italy and mainland Europe. Known for technical excellence and structured project delivery, the company operates at the forefront of the data centre construction sector.
With a strong pipeline of hyperscale and co location data centre developments, they have built a reputation for delivering complex mechanical and electrical systems safely, on programme and to an exceptional commissioning standard. Milan is a key strategic location within their European operations.
The Role – Mechanical Commissioning Lead
As Mechanical Commissioning Lead, you will take full ownership of the mechanical commissioning strategy on a large scale data centre project in Milan. This is not a box ticking role. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead all mechanical commissioning activities across HVAC, chilled water, pipework, CRAH units and associated systems. Your influence will directly impact programme certainty, client satisfaction and successful handover.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the mechanical commissioning plan from pre commissioning through to integrated systems testing and handover
• Review IFC drawings, specifications and technical submittals to ensure commissioning readiness
• Define system boundaries and support systemisation in line with project milestones
• Coordinate commissioning activities with planners, package managers, vendors and specialist subcontractors
• Manage commissioning trackers, test packs, scripts and sign off documentation
• Witness and verify mechanical commissioning activities including pressure testing, flushing, balancing and functional testing
• Lead walkdowns, tag walks and system completion reviews
• Chair commissioning meetings and provide structured weekly progress and risk reports
• Identify programme or quality risks early and work with PM and QS teams to mitigate impact
• Oversee snag management and ensure timely close out of mechanical defects
• Ensure client training, O&M documentation and final handover deliverables are completed to data centre standards
• Maintain strict adherence to health and safety procedures throughout commissioning phases
About You
• Mechanical Engineering degree or trade background with strong commissioning progression
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Commissioning Lead, Commissioning Manager or Senior Commissioning Engineer on data centre or mission critical projects
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, plantrooms and large scale mechanical installations
• Experience working on hyperscale data centres or high value MEP projects
• Commercial awareness with the ability to flag variations and commissioning related cost impacts
• Confident leading vendors, subcontractors and junior engineers
• Detail focused with a structured approach to documentation and quality control
• Strong communication skills and ability to represent the project in front of the client
