Mechanical Design Engineer – Water & Wastewater Projects

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and delivery of mechanical design solutions for water and wastewater treatment projects based in Galway.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team, you will help turn design concepts into practical, buildable engineering solutions, ensuring that all mechanical aspects of the project, from fixed and rotating equipment to material selection and system layouts, are robust, efficient and compliant with industry standards.

This role offers strong exposure to all stages of project development, including feasibility, detailed design, procurement support, construction, commissioning and handover. It is well suited to someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, working collaboratively with internal teams and engaging with external consultants and suppliers.

Mechanical Design Engineer Skills:

• Experience in mechanical design, ideally within the water or wastewater sector
• Ability to produce practical, compliant and cost-effective design solutions
• Strong understanding of pumps, valves, rotating equipment, screens, blowers, filters and related mechanical systems
• Experience preparing design drawings, reports, calculations and specifications
• Good communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, consultants and internal teams
• Ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet project deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools
• Full Irish/EU driving licence and permission to work in Ireland
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

As a Mechanical Design Engineer:

• Develop mechanical design solutions from concept stage through detailed design and for-construction issue
• Support feasibility studies, site assessments and early-stage project scoping
• Produce mechanical drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports
• Assist with cost estimation and the selection of equipment suppliers for pumps, valves, blowers, screening systems, pipework materials and mechanical packages
• Work closely with the Design Manager and Project Manager to ensure technical requirements are met
• Participate in design reviews and ensure design outputs are buildable, safe and aligned with project objectives
• Provide support to the procurement, construction and commissioning teams during project delivery
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards, safety requirements and operational considerations
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and innovative solutions
• Maintain communication with clients and stakeholders to support programme delivery and design approvals

The Package: Salary will be DOE, but you can expect a salary of  at least €70,000 plus package, depending on experience.
