As a Design Engineer, you will:
- Work across all departments, from Sales to Commissioning, ensuring smooth communication with all stakeholders.
- Take ownership of electrical design for medium and high voltage substations, including protection, control, and power systems.
- Generate and maintain accurate design documentation, drawings, and O&M manuals.
- Engage directly with clients and internal teams to deliver a customer-centric design experience.
- Ensure designs are compliant with industry standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
- Design, calculate, and document electrical systems including CT, CVT, LVAC, LVDC, logic diagrams, and trip tables.
- Develop control and protection circuits for switchgear.
- Create detailed drawings using EPLAN and AutoCAD for MV and HV substations.
- Perform protection studies using ETAP software.
- Configure protection and communication devices and generate signal lists.
- Collaborate with operations to ensure constructible designs and proper equipment installation.
- Review electrical specifications, project scope, and identify any design gaps.
- Track procurement, manage submittals, and verify equipment delivery.
- Liaise with suppliers on specifications and components.
- Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental, and ISO standards.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Degree (Level 8) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in MV/HV substation design.
- 3–5 years’ experience in medium or high voltage design.
- Strong knowledge of HV and MV switchgear, LVAC, and DC systems associated with HV substations.
- Familiarity with Irish electrical codes, distribution, and grid standards.
- Experience with protection relays, control systems, and electrical CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD, SEE-Electrical, or similar).
- Knowledge of IEC standards is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- High level of computer literacy and proficiency in PC software packages.
- Right to work in Ireland.
