As a Design Engineer, you will:
 
  • Work across all departments, from Sales to Commissioning, ensuring smooth communication with all stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of electrical design for medium and high voltage substations, including protection, control, and power systems.
  • Generate and maintain accurate design documentation, drawings, and O&M manuals.
  • Engage directly with clients and internal teams to deliver a customer-centric design experience.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with industry standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
  • Design, calculate, and document electrical systems including CT, CVT, LVAC, LVDC, logic diagrams, and trip tables.
  • Develop control and protection circuits for switchgear.
  • Create detailed drawings using EPLAN and AutoCAD for MV and HV substations.
  • Perform protection studies using ETAP software.
  • Configure protection and communication devices and generate signal lists.
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure constructible designs and proper equipment installation.
  • Review electrical specifications, project scope, and identify any design gaps.
  • Track procurement, manage submittals, and verify equipment delivery.
  • Liaise with suppliers on specifications and components.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental, and ISO standards.

Skills & Experience Required:
  • Degree (Level 8) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in MV/HV substation design.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in medium or high voltage design.
  • Strong knowledge of HV and MV switchgear, LVAC, and DC systems associated with HV substations.
  • Familiarity with Irish electrical codes, distribution, and grid standards.
  • Experience with protection relays, control systems, and electrical CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD, SEE-Electrical, or similar).
  • Knowledge of IEC standards is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in PC software packages.
  • Right to work in Ireland.

The Package:

Salary will be DOE, but you can expect a salary of at least €65,000 plus package, and more.
