The Role – MV Specialist Electrical Engineer
As an MV Specialist Electrical Engineer, you will lead the engineering and technical delivery of medium voltage systems across major construction and infrastructure projects. This role sits at the centre of project design coordination, installation support and commissioning activities, ensuring MV electrical systems are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with strict client and regulatory requirements.
You will work closely with project managers, design teams, supply chain partners and commissioning specialists to ensure medium voltage systems are correctly designed, installed and integrated. The role combines technical leadership, system modelling, design validation and site engineering support across multiple large scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the engineering and technical delivery of medium voltage electrical systems on complex construction projects
• Coordinate MV design activities with on site installation teams and project delivery schedules
• Prepare and manage technical electrical submittals and ensure approvals are secured within programme timelines
• Track procurement and delivery of MV equipment including switchgear, transformers and protection systems
• Review designs with BIM teams to ensure installations are fully coordinated and constructible
• Carry out electrical system walkdowns to verify compliance with specifications and design drawings
• Manage specialist vendors during commissioning and ensure systems are delivered on schedule
• Compile commissioning documentation including test packs, functional test procedures and O&M manuals
• Perform advanced power system studies including load flow, short circuit and protection coordination analysis
• Conduct power quality, harmonic and arc flash studies using specialist software such as ETAP, PSCAD or DIgSILENT
• Review consultant and subcontractor MV system designs to validate equipment sizing and specifications
• Support project teams in resolving complex MV technical issues across multiple projects
• Assist estimating and procurement teams with technical queries and value engineering proposals
• Contribute to engineering process improvements and knowledge sharing across the wider engineering team
About You
• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong experience working with medium voltage electrical systems within construction, utilities or industrial environments
• Proven experience supporting large scale projects such as data centres, pharmaceutical facilities, manufacturing plants or power infrastructure
• Experience carrying out power system modelling and studies using software such as ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT or similar tools
• Strong understanding of IEC and IEEE electrical design standards
• Ability to review and validate MV system designs including switchgear, transformers, protection and cabling
• Excellent coordination skills when working with project managers, consultants and subcontractors
• Strong technical problem solving ability and attention to engineering detail
• Ability to manage multiple project priorities within fast paced construction environments
