The Role Project Engineer Mechanical
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering mechanical packages on a major data centre construction project in Milan. You will bridge the gap between design and installation, ensuring mechanical systems are fully coordinated, technically compliant and delivered safely and on programme.
Working closely with the Project Manager, site management team and subcontractors, you will drive quality, resolve technical issues early and support commercial awareness across the project lifecycle. This is a hands on site based role suited to an engineer who thrives in fast paced mission critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure all mechanical design drawings, specifications and technical submittals are reviewed for compliance and buildability
• Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, sprinkler, architectural and structural disciplines
• Support project handover from preconstruction to site delivery, ensuring full understanding of scope and programme
• Manage RFIs and technical queries, driving timely design clarifications
• Assist with value engineering initiatives to optimise cost and programme without compromising quality
• Prepare and review method statements and risk assessments in line with site activities
• Coordinate mechanical subcontractors to ensure works are delivered to specification and schedule
• Track procurement of mechanical equipment, raising purchase orders and monitoring deliveries
• Support weekly progress reporting and contribute to project programme updates
• Monitor variations, assist with take offs and maintain awareness of project commercial performance
• Carry out inspections, walkdowns, snagging and support commissioning activities
• Compile and manage test packs and QA documentation
• Maintain high standards of document control and data security in line with ISMS requirements
About You
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• Experience working as a Mechanical Project Engineer on data centre, pharmaceutical or other mission critical construction projects
• Strong understanding of HVAC, pipework, chilled water, and mechanical building services systems
• Proven experience coordinating subcontractors and resolving technical issues on site
• Commercially aware with experience supporting variations and procurement
• Confident communicator who can liaise effectively with design teams, site teams and commercial departments
• Organised and detail focused with strong document control and reporting skills
• Driven by quality, safety and programme delivery
