The Company
This Irish engineering contractor specialises in the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients throughout Ireland. Their work covers treatment plants, pumping stations, network upgrades and process installations, with a strong focus on safe delivery, technical standards and programme.
With a growing workload across the water and wastewater sector, they are looking to appoint an experienced Project Engineer to join their team in Co Carlow. The position combines office-based project management in Carlow with regular site visits to active projects throughout Ireland.
The Role: Project Engineer
Based in Carlow, Co Carlow, this Project Engineer role will see you involved in the full lifecycle of water and wastewater projects, from early design and procurement through to construction, commissioning and final handover.
You will support Project Managers while taking ownership of technical coordination, contractor management, procurement, documentation and site supervision. The position combines office-based engineering with regular site visits, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical design work and practical project delivery.
Must Have Requirements
You are an experienced Project Engineer with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering and a proven ability to deliver construction or infrastructure projects. You are comfortable balancing technical design responsibilities with site coordination and contractor management.
You work well with multidisciplinary teams, communicate confidently with clients and subcontractors, and have the practical problem-solving skills needed to keep projects progressing safely, on programme and within budget.

Must Have Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a Project Engineer or Mechanical / Electrical Engineering role
- Experience delivering construction or infrastructure projects is required
- Proven experience managing subcontractors and coordinating project delivery
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and construction drawing coordination
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Water and wastewater industry experience preferred
- Experience with treatment plants, pumping stations or utility infrastructure
- Knowledge of plant design, construction and commissioning
- Experience preparing technical submissions and O&M manuals
- Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline
- Experience working with local authority or public sector contracts
- Strong commercial awareness and reporting experience
- Support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects from design through to handover
- Prepare preliminary designs, technical reports and engineering calculations
- Develop and coordinate AutoCAD construction drawings and vendor information
- Assist with procurement of plant, equipment and materials
- Prepare technical submissions for client approval
- Generate and monitor project programmes
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and directly employed site crews
- Carry out site supervision and ensure works are delivered safely and to specification
- Prepare Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Site Safety documentation
- Maintain project documentation, variation registers and document control systems
- Compile Operation and Maintenance manuals
- Monitor project costs and support commercial reporting
- Liaise with clients, Resident Engineers and project stakeholders throughout delivery
