Team Manager – Electrical Design (Substations) You are an experienced Electrical Design Manager with a strong background in substation and power infrastructure design, looking to take on a senior leadership role within a growing engineering organisation delivering major power, renewables and grid infrastructure projects across Ireland.
This is a predominantly office-based role in Dublin, offering flexibility to work from alternative office locations where required. You will act as a technical authority and people leader, taking ownership of electrical substation design delivery while mentoring and developing a high-performing engineering team.

Team Manager – Electrical Design (Substations) – Skills & Experience: Honours Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 8 years’ industry experience within power, utilities, renewables or substation engineering
Strong technical expertise in primary and secondary substation design
Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams
Strong knowledge of substation, utilities and renewable energy projects
Familiarity with ESB and/or EirGrid specifications advantageous
Proficient in AutoCAD, Eplan and Microsoft Office (design studies and cable design software beneficial)
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of design–construction interfaces
Excellent client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage competing priorities within a dynamic project environment
Proactive, safety-focused and solutions-driven leadership approach
As a Team Manager – Electrical Design (Substations) you will: Act as Team Manager and Substation Technical Lead within the engineering function
Take ownership of all aspects of electrical substation design including primary design, secondary design, calculations and procurement specifications
Allocate tasks to team members and monitor progress against programme and cost targets
Review and approve design submissions prior to issue, identifying value engineering opportunities
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and day-to-day support to engineering team members
Manage substation design projects from feasibility through construction and final handover
Identify technical, construction and commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies
Support tendering and bid submissions with technical input where required
Engage in client liaison and business development activities as needed
Contribute as part of a multidisciplinary design team across power and renewable projects
Support operations teams with technical advice and design solutions
Review and approve construction work packs prior to site commencement
Carry out performance development reviews and support career progression for team members
Engage with professional accreditation and mentoring frameworks
Stay up to date with emerging technologies, design innovations and industry best practice
Health, Safety & Quality: Champion a safety-first culture across all design and engineering activities
Ensure all design outputs meet required technical, quality and safety standards
Promote right-first-time delivery and continuous improvement
Maintain high standards of documentation, governance and compliance
