The Company

This Irish engineering contractor delivers complex electrical engineering projects across the data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial and mission-critical sectors throughout Ireland and Europe.

With a strong pipeline of hyperscale data centre projects, they are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Dublin or Limerick.

The company has experienced design and project delivery teams, with opportunities for engineers to develop their technical expertise on large-scale electrical installations and power distribution systems.

The Role: Electrical Design Engineer

As Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of electrical systems on major data centre and mission-critical projects.

Based in Dublin or Limerick, you will work closely with Senior Electrical Engineers, multidisciplinary design teams, clients and contractors to develop electrical power distribution systems and associated services.

The role involves electrical calculations, technical documentation, design coordination and supporting projects through design, installation and commissioning. Some domestic and international travel will be required.

Must Have Requirements

• 3–5 years' experience in electrical design engineering
• Third-level degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems and associated design principles
• Experience preparing electrical drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentation
• Good knowledge of relevant electrical regulations and standards, including ETCI, BS 7671 and EN/IEC standards

Preferred Experience

• 1–2 years' experience on data centre or mission-critical projects
• Electrical design experience across pharmaceutical, industrial or large-scale commercial developments
• Experience with Amtech, ETAP, EPLAN P8, PSCAD, DIgSILENT or CDEGS
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks and Bluebeam
• Membership of Engineers Ireland or IET, or working towards chartership

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical designs for major data centre and mission-critical construction projects
• Develop electrical power distribution, control, ICT, security and fire detection system designs
• Carry out electrical calculations, system studies and technical assessments
• Produce electrical drawings, specifications, design reports and supporting documentation
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural and other engineering disciplines
• Liaise with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and specialist suppliers to resolve technical queries
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, EN/IEC standards and project specifications
• Participate in design reviews, technical coordination meetings and value engineering exercises
• Identify design clashes, technical risks and opportunities to improve installation efficiency
• Support senior engineers with design development and programme delivery
• Maintain accurate design records and contribute to quality assurance procedures
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning where required

About You

You will be an Electrical Design Engineer with 3–5 years' experience and a strong understanding of electrical power systems, design calculations and technical coordination.

Ideally, you will have gained experience on data centre, pharmaceutical or other mission-critical projects and be comfortable working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

You should be technically capable, organised and confident communicating with clients, contractors and senior engineers.

Experience with electrical design software such as Amtech, ETAP or EPLAN, alongside AutoCAD or Revit, would be particularly beneficial.

You will also be willing to travel domestically and internationally when required.
