The Role – Mechanical & Electrical Quantity Surveyor

This is a key commercial role supporting the delivery of mechanical and electrical packages across multiple live projects. You will take ownership of cost management from pre-contract stage through to final account, ensuring financial performance is maintained while supporting project teams on site.

Working closely with project managers, engineers and subcontractors, you will play a critical role in cost control, procurement and commercial reporting, ensuring projects are delivered on budget and in line with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial aspects of M&E packages from tender through to final account
• Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates and bills of quantities for mechanical and electrical works
• Support subcontractor procurement, tender analysis and contract placement
• Monitor project costs, valuations, variations and cashflow to maintain accurate financial control
• Prepare interim valuations, cost reports and forecasts for ongoing projects
• Manage subcontractor accounts, applications for payment and final account agreements
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities across projects
• Ensure compliance with contract conditions, procurement strategies and client requirements
• Support value engineering initiatives to drive cost efficiency without impacting quality
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to regular commercial reporting

About You

• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline
• Minimum 3 years experience in a Quantity Surveying role with exposure to M&E works
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems within construction projects
• Experience preparing cost plans, BOQs and tender documentation for M&E packages
• Solid knowledge of construction contracts and procurement processes
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost and risk effectively
• Proficient in Excel and cost management software such as CostX or Bluebeam
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Organised, detail-focused and capable of working closely with site and project teams
