The Company
This opportunity is with a well established European contractor specialising in large scale data centre construction projects. With a strong pipeline of mission critical developments across Ireland, Italy and mainland Europe, the business is recognised for delivering technically complex, high value projects to the highest standards of safety, quality and programme performance.
Their Milan project is a major hyperscale data centre development, offering long term continuity of work and exposure to fast paced, technically demanding mechanical packages.
The Role Mechanical Engineer
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the technical and on site delivery of mechanical systems on a live data centre construction project in Milan. This is a site based role where you will bridge design and installation, ensuring HVAC and mechanical services are delivered safely, on programme and to specification.
You will be involved from technical review and procurement through to installation, commissioning and final handover, working closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors and client team. Your input will directly influence quality, sequencing, cost control and overall project performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage day to day technical coordination of mechanical and HVAC services on site
• Review tender and design documentation and support plant and equipment selection
• Lead design management and drive the production of coordinated drawings
• Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, CSA and specialist subcontractors
• Prepare method statements and risk assessments for construction activities
• Sequence installation of pipework and mechanical systems in line with programme milestones
• Support commercial validation of the project from handover through procurement
• Assist with change management, monthly valuations and final account preparation
• Oversee installation standards to ensure high quality delivery through to commissioning and handover
• Maintain clear client communication and regular reporting on progress
About You
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer on data centre, mission critical or large scale MEP construction projects
• Strong background within a mechanical and electrical contracting environment
• Design management and technical coordination experience is essential
• Excellent understanding of HVAC systems, pipework installation and mechanical plant
• Commercial awareness with experience supporting procurement and valuations
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Proficient in MS Office and project planning tools
• Detail focused with a commitment to safety, quality and programme delivery
