This Irish engineering contractor delivers complex electrical engineering projects across the data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial and mission-critical sectors throughout Ireland and Europe.

With a strong pipeline of major data centre developments, they are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer with specialist medium voltage (MV) experience to join their engineering team in Dublin or Limerick.

The company delivers technically demanding electrical packages involving power distribution, MV switchgear, transformers, protection systems and associated infrastructure, with opportunities to work across major Irish and European projects.

The Role: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

As Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will take technical responsibility for the design and engineering of medium voltage power systems on major data centre and mission-critical construction projects.

Based in Dublin or Limerick, you will lead MV design activities from initial concept and detailed engineering through procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Working closely with project management, construction, BIM, procurement and commissioning teams, you will ensure MV systems are technically compliant, coordinated and suitable for installation.

You will also provide technical guidance to junior engineers, manage specialist vendors and support the resolution of complex electrical engineering issues across multiple projects.

Must Have Requirements

• Proven senior-level experience in medium voltage electrical design and power systems engineering
• Experience delivering MV electrical packages on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial or mission-critical construction projects
• Strong technical knowledge of MV switchgear, transformers, protection relays, cable systems and earthing design
• Hands-on experience using ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, CDEGS or equivalent power systems analysis software
• Ability to lead MV design reviews, interpret technical specifications and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE standards

Preferred Experience

• Experience delivering hyperscale data centre projects across Ireland or mainland Europe
• Strong knowledge of load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash studies
• Experience with harmonic analysis, power quality, motor starting and transient stability studies
• Previous involvement in MV equipment procurement, factory acceptance testing, site testing and commissioning
• Experience coordinating with electrical utilities, specialist equipment manufacturers and commissioning teams
• Experience mentoring graduate and junior electrical engineers

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and technical delivery of medium voltage power distribution systems across major construction projects
• Manage MV engineering activities from design development through procurement, installation, testing and commissioning
• Prepare, review and approve MV electrical drawings, specifications, calculations and technical documentation
• Carry out load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and power quality studies
• Develop and review MV switchgear, transformer, protection relay, cable and earthing system designs
• Ensure MV designs comply with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards and relevant electrical regulations
• Coordinate with BIM, construction, procurement and commissioning teams to ensure designs are practical and fully integrated
• Review technical submittals, equipment selections, vendor drawings and design documentation
• Liaise with clients, consultants, specialist suppliers and equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning and final system validation
• Identify engineering risks, design conflicts and opportunities to improve system reliability and efficiency
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex MV electrical issues during construction and commissioning
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and wider project teams
• Contribute to the development of engineering standards, design procedures and technical best practices

About You

You will be an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer or MV Electrical Engineer with a strong background in medium voltage power distribution and electrical systems design.

You should have practical experience delivering MV packages on major data centre, pharmaceutical or industrial construction projects and be comfortable taking technical ownership of complex electrical systems.

Strong knowledge of ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT or similar power systems software is important, alongside experience in protection coordination, short circuit studies, earthing design and MV equipment selection.

You will be confident dealing with clients, consultants, equipment vendors and construction teams, with the ability to resolve technical issues and guide engineering decisions.

Previous experience supporting commissioning and mentoring junior engineers would be particularly beneficial.
