The Company

This growing Irish civil engineering contractor has built a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects across Ireland, with a particular focus on water, wastewater, utilities, and public realm developments.

With a healthy pipeline of secured work and continued expansion across the Irish market, they are looking to strengthen their pre-construction team in Castlebar, Co Mayo with the appointment of an experienced Senior Estimator.


The Role: Senior Estimator

Based in Castlebar, Co Mayo, the Senior Estimator will play a key role within the tendering department, working closely with senior management, project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure major civil engineering projects.

You will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive tenders across water infrastructure, wastewater, utilities, and civil engineering projects while ensuring all submissions align with client requirements and company objectives.

This is a commercially important position that offers genuine long-term progression within an expanding contractor delivering essential infrastructure projects throughout Ireland.


Must Have Requirements:

•  Must have 5 years' experience in an Estimator or Senior Estimator role within civil engineering or utilities projects

•  Proven experience required preparing tenders for Irish construction or civil engineering projects

•  Strong knowledge of estimating, cost planning, subcontractor procurement, and tender documentation

•  Experience with water, wastewater, utilities, or infrastructure projects is required

•  Degree qualification in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline


Preferred Experience:

•  Experience working with public sector contracts

•  Knowledge of value engineering and risk management processes

•  Experience using estimating software and digital tendering platforms

•  Strong understanding of Irish market rates and supply chains


Nice to Have:

•  Chartered status or professional memberships

•  Experience managing junior estimators

•  Background working with a main contractor or specialist civil engineering contractor


Key Responsibilities:

•  Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering, utilities, water, and wastewater projects

•  Review drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender documentation

•  Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations

•  Conduct risk assessments and value engineering exercises

•  Work closely with operational teams to develop winning tender strategies

•  Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors during the tender process

•  Assist with bid submissions and tender presentations

•  Support project handovers to delivery teams following successful awards

•  Monitor market trends, pricing movements, and industry developments

•  Maintain accurate estimating records and cost databases


About You:

You are an experienced Senior Estimator with a strong civil engineering background and a proven ability to produce accurate, commercially competitive tenders.

You understand the Irish construction and infrastructure market and have hands-on experience pricing water, wastewater, utilities, or large-scale civil engineering works.

You are commercially aware, detail-focused, and comfortable working closely with project teams, suppliers, and senior management to secure new business opportunities.

Strong communication skills, organisational ability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving will be key to success in this role.
