This well-established Irish civil engineering contractor has built a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure and engineering projects throughout Ireland. Their work spans road construction, bridges, utilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, public realm developments, earthworks and other large-scale civil engineering schemes for both public and private sector clients.

The Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Based in Portlaoise, Co Laois, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will take responsibility for the commercial management of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects from pre-construction through to final account.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will work closely with project managers, site teams and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered within budget while maintaining strong commercial control throughout every stage of the contract.

This role would suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure or heavy construction projects.

Must Have Requirements:
  • Must have 6+ years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a civil engineering or infrastructure contractor.
  • Proven experience required managing the commercial aspects of large civil engineering projects.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish construction contracts, procurement and cost control.
  • Experience working with a main contractor or civil engineering contractor in Ireland is required.


Preferred Experience:
  • Experience on roads, bridges, utilities, water or public infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC and Public Works Contracts.
  • Strong commercial reporting and forecasting experience.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.


Nice to Have:
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership.
  • Experience using modern commercial management software.
  • Strong mentoring experience with junior commercial staff.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare cost plans, valuations, forecasts and monthly commercial reports.
  • Procure subcontractors and manage subcontractor accounts.
  • Assess and manage variations, compensation events and change control.
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Work closely with operational teams to support programme delivery.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Ensure commercial compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team.


About You

You are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a proven background delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects for an Irish contractor. You understand the commercial challenges involved in large-scale engineering works and are confident managing multiple stakeholders while maintaining strong financial control.

You have excellent negotiation skills, strong contractual knowledge and the ability to provide accurate commercial reporting while supporting successful project delivery.
