M&E Quantity Surveyor Skills:
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics.
- Ideally working towards Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent).
- Commercially sharp with strong knowledge of standard forms of contract and measurement methods.
- Experience managing M&E packages and subcontractors from preconstruction through to final account.
- Skilled in estimating from first principles, take-offs, and remeasurable works.
- Background in civils, power, renewables, or cabling projects would be beneficial.
- Confident with MS Office and cost reporting tools.
- Clear communicator with negotiation skills and a problem-solving mindset.
- Full driving licence required.
As a M&E Quantity Surveyor:
- Deliver full M&E commercial services across individual projects.
- Promote and uphold high standards in health, safety, and environmental performance, working in line with HSEQ policies.
- Support the Managing QS on all commercial matters for assigned projects.
- Maintain oversight on commercial progress, ensuring accurate records are kept and procedures followed.
- Build a strong sense of commercial awareness within the wider team.
- Lead by example, mentor junior team members, and delegate effectively.
- Ensure all work complies with internal governance and commercial processes.
- Prepare and submit valuations and applications for payment with solid supporting documentation.
- Handle subcontractor and supplier accounts from initial requisition through to final account.
- Draft detailed cost reports and forecasts for both internal use and for clients.
- Manage change control processes, including compensation events and extensions of time.
- Build and maintain procurement schedules for materials and subcontract packages.
- Lead commercial risk identification, value engineering, and change tracking.
- Keep project records up to date and accurate.
- Implement a WBS that aligns with contract and client requirements.
- Actively support cost-to-complete and risk register development.
- Support positive cash flow through careful monitoring of WIP and proactive reporting.
- Contribute to margin improvement strategies.
- Handle final accounts, contractual claims, and related commercial documentation.
- Help foster strong client relationships and represent the business in meetings and client events.
- Contribute ideas to business improvement initiatives.
