You are a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator looking to join the team based in Galway. You will play a central role in bidding for new contracts by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical engineering works across a diverse portfolio, including commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational and pharmaceutical sectors.

Mechanical Estimator Skills:
- Third-level qualification (Level 7 or higher: diploma or bachelor’s degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Technology, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience as a mechanical estimator or similar role within mechanical contracting, building services, M&E projects, or industrial / commercial engineering.
- Demonstrated experience preparing tenders and detailed mechanical cost estimates on projects of varying complexity.
- Strong proficiency in take-off from drawings and use of estimating software (e.g. CostX, FastPIPE, M-Estimator, or similar) and MS Office—especially Excel.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, plant equipment, materials, and installation methodologies.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, in-house teams, and senior management.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders/projects concurrently and deliver under tight deadlines.
As a Mechanical Estimator:
- Develop comprehensive, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems (e.g. heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, steam, water, plumbing, pumps, chillers, boiler plant, controls, etc.) based on drawings, specifications, and scope descriptions.
- Perform detailed take-offs of mechanical quantities from design drawings and specifications.
- Evaluate buildability, material selection, construction methods, and potential risks; incorporate these into estimates and propose value-engineering or cost-saving suggestions.
- Prepare bills of quantities, tender schedules, and cost breakdown structure.
- Participate in early-stage tender development including preliminary costing, budgeting and option analysis.
- Liaise with suppliers, trade contractors, and subcontractors to obtain quotations and negotiate pricing and delivery terms.
- Ensure all estimates include appropriate allowances and reflect realistic assessment of risk—including contingencies, inflation, escalation, and uncertainties.
- Manage commercial and contractual aspects through the estimation phase: document variations, claims, inclusions/exclusions, and ensure proper internal approvals.
- Contribute to procurement planning—defining works packages, timings, and supply chain requirements.
- Monitor cost progression during tender stages and advise on budget variances.
- Attend internal tender review meetings, client/consultant meetings as required, and occasionally site visits to understand conditions and clarify scope.
- Keep cost databases, standard rates, and estimators’ templates up to date; ensure consistent cost coding and feedback loops post-tender/project award.
- Maintain awareness of market trends, material pricing shifts, labour rates, and emerging mechanical systems or technologies.
