Project Electrical Engineer – Solar PV Contracting
Munster Region

The Company This contractor is a well-established player in the Irish renewable energy sector, delivering solar PV projects across the commercial, industrial and utility-scale markets. With a strong footprint in the Munster region, they are known for technically sound engineering, high safety standards and reliable project delivery from design through to grid connection.
The business combines in-house electrical engineering with hands-on site execution, giving engineers real ownership of projects and the opportunity to see their designs built, tested and energised on site.
The Role – Project Electrical Engineer As Project Electrical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the electrical design, coordination and delivery of solar PV systems across multiple projects in the Munster region. You will be involved from early-stage design and grid applications through to site supervision, commissioning and handover.
This is a well-rounded engineering role suited to someone who enjoys technical detail, regulatory coordination and being involved on site to ensure systems are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme.
Key Responsibilities • Develop detailed electrical designs for solar PV installations including single-line diagrams, cable sizing, inverter selection, protection coordination and earthing layouts
• Carry out system simulations and energy yield analysis using tools such as PVsyst, Helioscope and AutoCAD
• Prepare and manage technical documentation for client review, utilities and statutory authorities
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC and Irish grid connection standards
• Coordinate grid interconnection approvals, net metering and synchronisation with local utilities
• Support Power Purchase Agreement requirements including system sizing, export limitations and metering arrangements
• Review technical submittals, vendor quotations and equipment datasheets
• Support procurement by sourcing compliant electrical components and participating in FATs where required
• Supervise on-site electrical works including cabling, inverter installation and earthing systems
• Coordinate with civil and mechanical teams to ensure integrated project delivery
• Prepare and carry out testing, commissioning and grid synchronisation activities
• Produce as-built drawings, O&M manuals, test reports and handover documentation
• Enforce electrical safety standards, HSE compliance and quality assurance on site
About You • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering
• Proven experience delivering solar PV or renewable energy projects
• Strong knowledge of grid-connected PV systems, electrical design and compliance standards
• Experience with PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD or similar design tools
• Confident working with utilities, authorities and internal project teams
• Practical, detail-focused engineer with a strong safety and quality mindset
• Comfortable balancing office-based design work with site supervision
